The Olivier Giroud and the Olivier Giraud Show

Their names are the same but for one letter, they are both well-known in France and abroad, they are both top of their game and this week you have the chance to admire their performances in Paris.

Olivier Giroud, the professional football player, will be attacking for France as the reigning world champions host football minnows Andorra tonight in the Stade de France. Considering the huge gap between the two teams, it is likely to become a „fête du foot“ for the home side and their usually enthusiastic supporters. If you are fond of football, even as a neutral spectator you should have a great time in the wonderfully atmospheric national stadium, watching some of the best actors of our time performing their artistic moves on stage, that is, the football pitch.

Now, there’s another Olivier in town this week (he has actually been around for over ten years now), he is not part of any team but his own One (Wo)Man Show, and Paris Guided Walks would definitely like to draw your attention to his grand presentation. Monsieur Giraud is a master chef turned comedian, who tries to explore and explain in this hilariously funny one-hour stand-up comedy what it essentially means to be Parisian, and to prepare visitors, tourists and expats for the cultural shock they might experience during their first encounters with this utterly strange form of human existence. The show is called “How to Become a Parisian in one hour”, and it is presented entirely in English, with a charmingly typical French accent (how else). Over the last ten years the play has been running, more than 800 000 spectators from over 100 countries have  laughed their hearts out over the annoyances of going about one’s daily business in Paris, the strangely arrogant hospitality of the locals and when confronted with their own faults and peculiar habits that may seem equally strange to the eyes of the Parisians.
