European Heritage Days in Paris

Every year in September, the events of the European Heritage Days draw a huge number of visitors throughout the member states of the European Union, and France is no exception from that. State institutes, monuments, museums, theatres and other places of interest which are normally closed for the public or charge an entry fee, open their doors, this year on the weekend of the 21st and 22nd of September, inviting everyone to visit the otherwise „forbidden” halls free of charge. Considering the incredibly rich culture and history of Paris, it is no wonder that so many are expected to turn up at the sights listed on the program. Paris Guided Walks will naturally be in the thick of things and cover for you the events and locations we manage to visit in a photo report. It will surely need some careful planning as endless queues are expected at the biggest attractions.

Here is a shortlist of places which I personally would like to visit the most:

• Elysée-palace: every year, about 20 thousand people would like to see the residence of the French President on the weekend of the European Heritage Days. This year, I will try my luck, too, even if I have to stand in line for 2-3 hours. Monsieur Macron, I’m coming!
• Paris City Hall (Hotel de Ville), which already looks amazing from the outside, but based on the photos I have seen, it should be equally thrilling inside.
• Hotel de Sens (in the picture above): this is a wonderful medieval bishop’s palace on the edge of the Marais, which today hosts a library with limited visiting hours.
• Luxembourg-palace (in the picture below): the seat of the French Senate, located in the equally beautiful garden with the same name
• Grand Palais: A present-day museum and art gallery, this magnificent palace with the distinctive glass and iron domed roof was built for the 1900 World Exhibition.
• Printemps shopping mall: taking in several blocks in the neighbourhood of the glittering Galeries Lafayette, this established historic department store with its gilded facade and temple-like domes invites visitors to discover its secret passageways and hidden corners – in the course of guided tours. This sound like a rare treat for me…
